Version1.1,Sep2025 www.dioo.com ©2025DiooMicrocircuitsCo.,Ltd.Jiangsu 9. FunctionDescription The DIA1411 is a temperature sensor chip compatible with SMBus (or I2C) communication protocols. The chip canmonitortheinternaltemperature. The ALERT or THERM/ADDRpinscanbeassertedtoachievetwolevels ofovertemperaturealarm. 9.1. Operatingmodes TheDIA1411hastwooperatingmodes,standbyandactive. Inthestandbymode,thechipsupportsSMBusandI2Cbutdoesnotconductconsecutivetemperaturedetection. Every timethe one shot register is written (see section 12.7), the device detects temperature for once. After the temperaturedetection iscompleted, thedeviceentersthe standby modeagain. In the active mode, the chip performs consecutive temperature detection and updates the temperature data in theregisters andthevalue ofthe statusregisters(seesection12.2) inreal-time.This isthedefaultstate. 9.2. Overtemperaturealarm The DIA1411 has THERM /ADDR output pin and ALERT output pin for overtemperature alarm. Both______ THERM/ADDRpin and ALERT pinsareopen-drainoutputs andrequirepull-upresistors. 9.2.1. ALERT pin The ALERT pin is an open-drain output, so that a pull-up resistor is needed. It has two modes of operation, named “Interrupt mode” and “Comparator mode”, which can be selected via the ALERT/COMP bit in the configurationregister(seesection 12.3). 9.2.1.1. Interruptmode Inthe interrupt mode, the ALERT pin is assertedwhen thetemperature measuring consecutively out-of-limit(≥ High Limit or < Low Limit) conditions is detected for the programmed number of times. The ALERT pin will remain assertedas long as an out-of-limitcondition remains.Once the out-of-limitcondition has been removed, the ALERT pin will remain asserted until the appropriate status bits are cleared. The appropriate status bits includeHighLimitstatusandLowLimitstatus bits, allofwhicharereadclear. The ALERT pin canbemaskedbysettingthe maskregister.Oncethe ALERT pin has been masked,it will be deassertedand remain deasserted until the maskregister is cleared by the user.No matter maskregister is set ornot, thestatus registers(seesection12.2)willbeupdatednormally. The ALERT pin can be used as an interrupt signal or as an SMBusAlert signal, which allows an SMBus client toreportanerrorconditiontothe host.Oneormore ALERT outputscanbehard-wiredtogether. 9.2.1.2. Comparatormode In the comparator mode, the ALERT pin will be asserted if the measured temperature exceeds the programmedHigh Limitfor the programmed number of times in a consecutive measurements. The ALERT pin willremainasserteduntilthemeasuredtemperaturedropsbelowtheHighLimitminustheThermHysteresis. In the comparator mode, the ALERT pin cannot be masked by mask register. The corresponding High Limit status bits will not be cleared until the ALERT pin is deasserted. SMBus timeout SMBus timeout function is supported by the DIA1411. The device resets its SMBus protocol if the clock line is maintained low for more than 30 ms. Setting the TIMEOUT bit in the consecutive ALERT register (see section 12.10)willenable thisfunction. 11.1.5. SMBus andI2Ccompatibility SMBus and I2C are both supported by the DIA1411. Here shows the key differences between SMBus and I2C devices. TheDIA1411supportI2Cfastmodeat400kHz,covering100kHz(maximumSMBus time). (1) 10kHzistheminimumfrequencyforSMBuscommunications. (2) The condition of resetting the SMBus client protocol is that the clock is kept at a logic “0” for longer than 30 ms. The timeout functionality is disabled by default while it is enabled by writing to the bit 7 in the consecutive ALERTregister (TIMEOUTbit).I2Cdoesn’thaveatimeout. (3) I2Cdevicescan’tsupporttheALERTresponseaddressfunctionalityand it’soptionalforSMBus. The DIA1411 SMBus interface will not respond to signals sent with an invalid slave address or an invalid protocol, and the register contents will remain unaffected. Stretching of the SMCLK signal is supported if the timingis managedbyotherSMBus components. 11.2. SMBusprotocol The DIA1411 supports various kind of byte protocols: Send bite, Read byte, Write byte, Receive byte andAlert responseaddressas validprotocols. (1) Writebyte:Writingonebyteofdatatotheregisters. (2) Readbyte:Readingonebyteofdata fromtheregisters. (3) Sendbyte:Settingtheinternaladdressregisterpointertothecorrectaddresslocation.Notedthat nodatais transferredduringtheSendbyteprotocol. (4) Receive byte: Reading data from a register when the internal register address pointer is at the correct locationviaSendbyte.Thisis usedforconsecutivereads ofthe sameregister. (5) Alert response address: the ALERT pin output can be interpreted as interrupt or as an SMBusAlert by the host. When the ALERT pin is asserted, the host will send the Alert Response Address (ARA) to the general addressof0001_100xb.TheDIA1411will respondtotheARAintwo steps:sendtheslaveaddressofDIA1411. ThentheMASKbitwillbesetand the ALERT pinwillbedeasserted.
