Description

The A T431 is lo w-voltage th ree-terminal adjustable voltag e referen ce with sp ecified thermal stab ility o ver app licable co mmercial temperature ranges. Output voltage may be set to any value between V ref (1 .24V) and 12V w ith two external resistors (see Figure 2). When used with an op tocoupler, th e AT431 is ideal vo ltage referen ce in iso lated feed back circuits for 1.8V to 12 V switching-mode power supplies. Thi s de vice has t ypical o utput impedance o f 0 .20Ω. Activ e ou tput circuitry provides a very s harp t urn-on c haracteristic, making the AT431 e xcellent replacem ents for low-voltage ze ner diodes i n many appl ications, including onbo ard regulation an d adj ustable power supplies. Output voltage Vo can be as low as reference voltage Vref (1.24V±1%). The output of the regulator, plus the forward voltage drop of the optocoupler LED (1.24+1.4=2.64V), determine the minimum voltage that can be regulated in a n iso lated in a n iso lated supply configuration. Regulated voltage as low as 2.7V is possible using the circuit.
