A thin- film ma terial is selectiv ely deposit ed on an alumina sub strate t ogether with me tallic c ontacts a t each end of the r esistor. The unadjus ted r esistors ar e hea t tr eated t o giv e the r equired T CR and s tability, then a pr ecisely c ontrolled laser trim pr ocess adjus ts the r esistance v alue. Epo xy pr otection is applied, and wr ap-around t erminations ar e added and pla ted. E ach resistor is measured immediately before packing into tape. Marking APC r esistors siz e 0603 and lar ger ar e mark ed whit e on black with 3 or 4 char acters indic ating ohmic v alue. APC0402 is not marked. Electrical connection to a ceramic substrate or to a printed circuit board can be made by reflow or wave soldering of wrap-around terminations. Wrap-around terminations provide good leach properties and ensure reliable contact. Due to the robust construction, the APC can be immersed in the solder bath for 30 seconds at 260°C. This enables the resistor to be mounted on one side of a printed circuit board and wire-leaded components applied on the other side. Application Notes HDSC resistors are ideally suited for handling by automatic methods due to their rectangularshape and the small dimensionaltolerances. Electrical connection to aceramic substrate or to a printed circuit board can be made by reflow or wave soldering of wrap-around terminations. Wrap-around terminations providegood leach propertiesand ensurereliablecontact. Due to the robust construction, the HDSC can be immersed in the solder bath for 30 seconds at260°C. HDSC is compatible with typicalPb-freesolderingmaterialsandtemperature profiles. HDSC resistors themselves can operate at a maximum temperatureof 155°C. For solderedresistors,the joint temperatureshould not exceed 110°C. This condition is met when the stated power levels at 70°C and recommended pad and trace areasareused. Pad and trace area is defined as the total area of the solder pad plus all copper trace within two squares of the edge of the solder pad. Allowance should be made if smaller areasof copper are used.
