Extensive self-testingof the electronics and transducer m ake this advanced switchsuitablefora wide varietyof hygieniclevelswitchapplications. M odel 960 Sw itches use A S-Interface ® (AS-i)bus digital comm unicationsforhigh or low singlepointliquid level measurement. The AS -ibus system providesa digitalserial interface w ith a single unshielded two-wire cable for power and data transfer. M odel961 isofferedwith either a 5-amp relayor a cur - rent shift electronics. The relay output electronicshas a DPDT relayforleveldetection, and a SPDT m alfunction relay. The currentshiftversion indicates 8 m A duringnor - m al operation,16 mA as a level alarm condition and a user-selectable 3.6 or 22 mA m alfunction indication. The 960/961 switches are designed for the stringent requirements ofhygienic applications. These switches are offeredw itha deep-drawn 304 stainlesssteelhousingthat isfavorable to CIP and SIP procedures.A 20 R a surface finish isfeatured w ithhygienicMod el960/961 transducers. Mode l9 60/96 1 switches use pulsed signal technology to detect the presence or absence of liquid in an ultrasonictrans - ducer gap. The transducer uses a pairof piezoelectric crystals that vibrate at a given frequency w hen subjected to an appliedvoltage. The transmitcrystalconvertstheappliedvoltagefrom the electronicsintoan ultrasonicsignal. When liquidispresent inthe gap, thereceivecrystalsenses theultrasonicsignal and convertsitback intoan electricalsignal.Thissignalis sentto the electronics to indicate a wet gap condition. When no liquidispresent, the ultrasonicsignalisattenu - ated and isnot detectedby thereceivecrystal . Challenging process conditions like aeration, suspended solids, and high viscositiesare overcome by using pulsed sig - nalcircuitry in96 0/961 switches.Un like many tuning forks, pulsedsignalultrasonicswitches do not need to be config - ured for different media densities, making these unitsthe mo stuniversally appliedlevelswitches on themarkey today. Mod el 96 0/961 switches feature an advanced self-test technology thatnot only teststhe electronics, transducer, and piezoelectric crystals, but also tests for the presence of industrialsources of environmental noise.Should the switchdetectany problems a m alfunction outputis gen - erated to alarm the user, and a red LED islitto indicate an alarm condition. A microprocessor inthe 960/ 961 electronics continuously m onitors allself-testdata.Shoulda faultoccur, the micro - processor can determine w hether the malfunction isdue tothe electronics, transducer, piezoelectriccrystals, orthe presence ofenvironm entalnoise.A pushbutton and Fault LED is used to assistintroubleshooting the switch:

Model 960/ 9 61 switches overcome this difficulty with an adjustable time delay feature. A potentiom eter allows a 1⁄2 –45-second delayto be setto disregard w aves or splashes, and reliablydetectthe true liquidlevel.
