The amount ofcapacitance developed inany vesselis determined by thesize(surfacearea)ofthe probe, the distance from theprobe toitsground, and the dielectric ofthe medium being m easured.Consideringthatthe probe’smount ingposition isfixed, and thatthe dielectric value ofthemedium is constant, then the amou ntof capacitance developed in any vesselbecomes dependent upon the am ountofthe probe w hichis covered by the m edia. A s m edia rises and fallsinthe tank, theamount ofcapaci - tance developed between the sensing probe and the ground also rises and falls.Thischange in capacitance is m easured inthe electronics.W hen thecapacitancemea - surem entisthe same as the setpoint,an alarmoccurs.
