DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE The SHA1144 was designedto be compatible with fast14-bit AID converterssuch asthe Analog Devices'ADCl130 and ADC1131 series, which convert 14 bitsin 25/1sand 12/1s,re- spectively.Maximum acquisitiontime of 8ps forthe SHA1144 permits high sampling ratesfor 14-bitconversions.The SHAl144 isguaranteed to have a maximum gain nonlinearity of :to.OOl% of fullscaleto insure1/2LSB accuracy in 14-bit systems. When in the "hold" mode, the droop rateis1pV/ps, so the SHA1144 willhold an input signalto :to.OO3% of full scale(20V pop)forover 600ps. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION The SHAl144 consistsbasicallyof two high speed operational amplifiers,a storagecapacitor, and a digitallycontrolled switch.Itdiffersfrom typicalsample-and-holdmodules inone important respect;applicationversatility. The user completes the SHAl144 feedback circuitexternalto the module. There- fore, the module may be used ininvertingor noninvertingcon- figurationsand can easilybe arrangedto provide circuitgain of more than unity to simplifysignalconditioningin a subsystem. Information furnished by Analog Devices isbelievedto be accurate and reliable.However. no responsibilityisassumed by Analog Devices for itsuse;nor for any infringementsof patentsor other rightsof third partieswhich may resultfrom itsuse. No licenseisgrantedby implica- tionor otherwiseunder any patent or patent rightsof Analog Devices. \\J<YJ'. FEEDBACK CONNECTIONS A block diagram of the SHA1144 isshown in Figure 1.The in- put sectionactsas a voltage-to-currentconverter,providingthe currentneeded to charge the "hold" capacitor. The output amplifierisolatesthe "hold" capacitorand provideslow out- put impedance fordrivingthe load.Since feedback isnot hard- wired inthe module, both invertingand noninvertinginput terminalsareavailable, and the SHA1144 can be connected as a followerwith unity gain or potentiometricgain,as wellas inverteror even a differentialamplifier.Sincethe unity gain followermode willbe the most frequentapplication,perform- ance data listedinthe specificationtableisbased on thisoper- atingmode. -15V ANALOG GROUND +15V HOLDCAPACITOR +INPUT+VOLTAGETOCURRENT CONVERTER 1.5mA/V OUTPUT -INPUT MODE CONTROL DIGITAL GROUND Figure1.
