A large val ue s ta r t-up re sistor can therefore be used to minimize the power loss in applicat ion. Operating Current The operating current of SDC3106 is as low as 500uA, so that good efficiency and very low st andby po wer(l ess than 30mW) is achi eved. CC/CV Operation SDC3106 is designed to produce CC/CV control characteristic as shown in the figure 4 . IO ±5% ±5% V-I VO Fi gure 4. Typical CC/CV Curve In charger applicat ions, a discharged battery charging starts in the CC portion of the curve until it is nearly full charged and smoothly sw itches to operat e in CV portion of the curve. The CC portion provide s output current limit ing. In CV operation, the output voltage is regulated through the primary side control. In CC operation mode, SDC3106 will regulate the output current constant regardl ess of the output voltage drop. Principle of Operation T o support SDC3106 proprietary CC/CV control, system needs to be designed in DCM mode for flyback system. In the DCM flyback converter, the output voltage can be sensed via the auxiliary winding. During BJT turn- on ti me, the load current is supplied f rom the outpu t filter cap acitor, and t he current in the primary w inding ramps up. Auxiliary Vo ltage Waveform In CC operat ion mode, SDC3106 calculates the output current through the peak value of primary side current and the ratio of the secondary side diode conduction ti me and the switching period. In CC mode of SDC3106, the ratio of T ONS and TSW is 0.5, and the VCS is about 0.5V. FB Feedback Scheme Operation Switching Frequency and Audio Noise Suppression The sw itching frequency of SDC3106 is adapt ively controlled according to the load condit ions and the operation modes. Considering power BJT is integrated, the operation switching frequency is recommended below 100 kHz. Since the system working in DCM mode, the maxi mum output power is given by P 1= 2 PKO SWP LF I×× × Where LP is transformer primary induct ance, I PK is primary peak current in a sw itching cycle, F SW is switching frequency. Via a resistor divider connected between the auxiliary winding and FB, the output voltage is sam p le d ind ire ct ly . Then, SDC3106 regulate s the switching frequency by contro lling the switch ing off tim e according to th e voltage on FB pin, thus constant voltage (CV) output can be achi eved. The switching frequency decreases along wi th the load condit ions, so it will drop into audio frequency range (20Hz~20kHz) ine vitably, which causes audio noise. SDC3106 uses two -stage peak current controlling technology, whose peak current switches to a s mall er value under light load condit ion. Thu s, the switching frequency is increased, and audio noise is suppre ssed. To ensure that the audio noise suppression function is effective, the maximum switching frequency of the system i s recommended above 55 kHz. Protection Functions Good power supply syst e m re liab ility is ach ie ve d with SDC3106 rich protection features including short/open circui t protecti on of current sense resi st or a nd FB upper/l ower resistors, FB over vol tage protecti on (OVP), VCC under voltage lockout (UVLO) protection, and maxi mum on-ti me protec ti on.
