PlatedMetals and Adapters Thoroughly degrease the surface witha clean cloth or pa per wipe da mpene d witha solvent.The clothor pape rshou ldnot be saturated withthe solvent. Allow the pa rttostand for a minute or two toallow comp leteevaporation of the solvent. Molded Parts, Cable Jackets, and Tubing M aterials Ca refully and evenlyabrade the surface with#320 emery cloth.W ipe contaminants and abraded particlesawa y witha clean clothor pap er wipe da mpen ed witha sol - vent.The cloth or paper should not be saturated withthe solvent.Allow the parttostand fora minu te or two to allowcomplete evapo rationofthe solvent. Note: I Avoid contamination ofthe pre - pared surface.Ifusing prime r, apply itaccording tothe ma nufac - turer’s instructions and allow itto dry. I Epo xy adhesives m ay cause skin and eye irritation.B e sureto observe the handling instructions. I Wh en using hot-meltadhesives on substrates w ithhigh heat-sink capacity(such as connectorback - shells),preheatthesubstrateuntil itis hottotouch, then apply the adhesive tape and shrink the molded partin place. Lightlyabrade and wipe 25.4 [1.0] ba ck inside eac h end ofthe bo ot. 4. W hen using primer, app lya thin,uniform coa tingtothe bond ing surface and letitairdry (15–20 minutes). 5. Doub le-wrapthe adh esivetape around the cleaned area ofthe ada pter,placingslight tension on the tape as you wrap. Tack the ends inplace witha soldering ironor hottool. 6. Doub le-wrapadhesive tape around the cab le jacketwhere the end of the boot istobe located. 7. Position the boot on the ada pterand the cab le. A pply heat,startingat the connector end . 8. R ecove rthe connector end ofthe boot onto the ada pterand continue hea tinguntilthe area is fullyrecovered and the adh esivetape isprop - erlym elted. 9. Comp letethe recovery ofthe boot, continuing toward the cable end. Heat the cable end of the boot where the adh esiveisplaced, untilthe partisfully recovered and the tape has properlymelted or flowed. The tape should app ear we t,form a bead or filletbetween the cab leand boot, and show no definition betwe en the layers oftape. 10. W here oven curingis req uiredtocomp lete adh esivebond ing, heat the assembled harness ina preheated oven acc ordingtothe following sched ule: S-1255-02: 2 hoursat155°C [311°F] S-1124: 90 m inutes at150°C [302°F] Transition 1. Whe n properlyposi - tioned , the partshould not fittightlyinthe “branch ed” area ofthe breakout.A tightfitma y cause the parttocrease or w rinkle as itrecovers. The tape should extend slightly be yond the end ofthe transition. 6. Ap ply hea ttothe center ofthe transition. Recov er one leg ofthe transition, moving heatfrom the centerofthe transition tothe adhe siveopen ing ofthe leg. R ep eat the procedure on each leg ofthe transition. 7. Co ntinue heating each end ofthe transitionuntil the partis fullyrecov - ered and the ad hesive tape has properly melted or flowed. The tape should now app ear we t,form a bead or fillet between the cable and transition, and show no definition between the layers oftape. 8. Lightlyabrade the bonding area ofthe cable jacketwith#320 emery cloth, then wipe offloose particleswitha tissueor clean cloth dampene d withsolvent. 2. Center the m olded part over the transitionarea. 3 . A pply heat tothe center ofthe transition. R ecover one leg ofthe transition, moving heatfrom the centerofthe transition tothe adhe siveopening ofthe leg.R epe atthe procedu re on each leg ofthe transition. 4. Continue heatingeach end untilthe partis fullyrecovered and the adhesive has properly melted. The ad hesive should form a be ad or filletbe tween the cable and transition when fullymelted. 5.
