The impedance of the input source connecting to the DC/DC power modules will interact with the modules and affect the stability. A low ac-impedance input sourc e is recommend ed. If the sourc e inductance is more than a fe w μH, we a dvise ad ding a t ypical 100uF electrol ytic capacitor (ESR > 0.1 Ω at 100 kHz, -40 oC t o 100oC.) mounted close to the inp ut of the modu le to imp rove the stability. Layout and EMC Considerations Delta’s DC/DC power modules are designed to operate in a wide va riety of system s and ap plications. Fo r design assistance wi th EMC com pliance an d related PWB layout issues, please cont act De lta’s tech nical suppo rt team. An external inp ut filter module is availab le for easi er EMC compliance design. Application notes to assist designers in addressing these issues are pending release. Safety Considerations The power module must be installed in compliance with the spacing and sep aration requirements of the end-user ’s safety agency standard, i.e., UL60950, CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-00 an d EN60 950: 2000 a nd IEC60 950-1999, if the system in which the power module is to be used must meet safety agency requirements. Basic insulation based on 75 Vdc input is provide d between the input a nd output of the mod ule for the p urpose of applying insulation req uirements wh en the input to this DC-to-DC co nverter is id entified as T NV-2 or SEL V. An additional evaluation i s n eeded if the sou rce is oth er tha n TNV-2 or SELV. When the input sou rce is SEL V circuit , the power module meets SELV (safety extra-low volt age) requirements. If the input source is a hazardous voltage which is greater than 60 Vdc and less than or equal to 75 Vdc for the module’s output to meet SELV requirements, all of the following must be met: Š The input source must be insulated from the a c mains by reinforced or double insulation. Š The input t erminals of the modul e are n ot operator accessible. Š If the metal baseplate is grounded, one Vi pin and one Vo pin shall also be grounded. Š A SELV reliability test is conducted on the system where the module is used, in combination with the module, to ensure that under a single fault, hazardous voltage do es not appea r at the module’s output. When install ed into a Cl ass II equipment (with out grounding), spacing consideration should be given to the end-use installation, as the sp acing between the module a nd mounting surfa ce h ave not been evaluated. The po wer module h as extra-lo w voltage (ELV ) outputs when all inputs are ELV. This power module is not internally fused. To achieve optimum safety and system protectio n, an input line fuse is highly recom mended. The safety agenci es require a normal-blow fuse with 50A maximum rating to be installed in the unground ed lead. A lower rate d fuse can b e use d ba sed on the max imum inrush transient energy and maximum input current. Soldering and Cleaning Considerations Post solde r cleanin g is usually the final board assembly p rocess befo re the boa rd or system undergoes e lectrical te sting. Inadeq uate clea ning and/or d rying may lower the reliability of a power module and severely affect the finishe d circuit boa rd assembly te st. Adequate cleaning a nd/or dryin g is especially important for un-encapsulated and/or open frame type powe r mo dules. For assist ance o n appropriate soldering a nd cl eaning pro cedures, please contact Delta’s technical support team. DS_Q48SB9R650_07102006

The module s includ e an internal output over-current protection circuit, which will endure current limiting for an unlimited du ration duri ng output overlo ad. If the output current exce eds the OCP set point, the module s will automatically shut down, and enter latch mode or hiccup mode, which is optional. For hi ccup mode, the module will t ry to re start after shutdown. If the overload condition still exists, the module will shut do wn again. This restart trial will continue until the overload condition is corrected. For latch m ode, the module will la tch off once it shutdown. The latch i s reset by either cycling the in put power or by toggling the on/off signal for one second. Over-Temperature Protection The over-temperature protection consists of circuitry that provides p rotection fro m thermal damage. If th e temperature exceeds the over-temperature threshold the module will shut down , and enter latch mod e or auto-restart mode, which is optional. For auto -restart mode, the module will monitor the module te mperature after shut down. On ce th e temperature is within the specification, the module will be auto-restart, For lat ch m ode, the m odule will la tch of f on ce it shutdown. Either cy cling the input powe r or toggling t he on/off signal for one second can reset the latch. Remote On/Off The remote on/off feature on the mo dule can be either negative or positive logi c. Negative logic turns t he module on during a logic low and off during a logic high. Positive logic turns th e modules on during a logic high and off during a logic low. Remote on/off can b e controlled by an external switch between the on/off terminal and th e Vi(-) terminal. The switch can be an open collector or open drain. For negative logic if the remote on/of f feature is not used, plea se sho rt the on/off pin to V i(-). Fo r p ositive logic if the remote on/of f feature is not used, please leave the on/off pin to floating.
