- •• Notes to Figure 5 (Page 100) The PT T oroid Series inductance is specified at AC and D C signal levels w hich have no significant effect on the perm eability of the pow dered iron toroidal core. Superim posed AC and D C voltages w ill change the perm eability and therefore the inductance, under operating conditions. T ypically, D C currents w ill reduce the inductance, w hile AC signals w ill increase the inductance up to a point, before beginning to decrease. Supporting inform ation is provided, detailing the AC or D C effects upon each part. Saturation resulting from D C currents is specified w ith waveform having less than a 1% ripple content. W hen considering the AC waveform , both the frequency and voltage level m ust be taken into account. A s an aid in defining w hat effect the alternating sine wave signal w ill have, the voltage/frequency factor curve can be used. T o determ ine w hat change of inductance can be expected at a given voltage level and frequency, sim ply divide the sinusoidal R M S voltage by the frequency. The voltage is in volts and the frequency is in hertz. A s an exam ple, if using part num ber PT2 5 -680 at a 1VR M S signal level, and a frequency of 2 5 K H z, the voltage/frequency factor is calculated to be: 1VR M S/2 5 ,000H z = 40 x 10–6.
