Parallel and Series Connec on PST26 Rev. 00 Page 4 of 11 www.powersystemtechnology.com Redundant Systems Opera on Hold-up me The converters provide internal hold-up me (see curve). Hot Swap The hot swap is not recommended because of the inrush current. Ne- vertheless with some external cau ons it may be possible. We recom- mend to consult our technical support before opera ng in this mode. Output Current Limita on All outputs are con nously protected against short-circuit by a constant current limita on.(no foldback) Thermal Considera ons When a converter is mounted in free air, in convec on cooling, and is opera ng at its nominal output power at the max. ambiant temperatu- re, the temperature measured on the heatsink should not exeed 95°C. The dera ng curves show the max power available from the converter versus ambiant temperature. Thermal protec on A temperature protec on is integrated in each Vicor module, disabling output when heatsink temperature exceeds 105°C the converter auto- ma cally restarts, when the temperature drops below this limit. Never- theless, exeeding the max opera ng temperature may cause failures of the converter. 100 125 150 175 200 225 250 275 300 325 350 375 400 -20 0°C 20°C 40°C 60°C 80°C P(w) T°C PST26300 Output power vs Ambiant temp. Free air 2 m/s A converter output can be connected in series with an output from a separate converter, an external diode across each output is required. The maximum output current of a serial-connected outputs is limited by the output with the lowest current limit.Output voltages above 48V (SELV - Safety Extra Low Voltage) require addi onal safety measures in order to comply with interna onal safety requirements. Parrallel opera on is possible with the addi on of external diodes in series with each output. When systems require a very high level of reliability and should work normally in the event of a failure, N+1 redundancy is implemented where N is the number of converter to support power requirement. If one converter fail, the remaining ones s ll delivers the power to the loads. External diodes are required with the PST26 to ensure proper N+1 opera on . 100 125 150 175 200 225 -20 -10 0°C 10°C 20°C 30°C 40°C 50°C 60°C 70°C 80°C 85°C P(w) T°C PST26150 Output power vs ambiant temp. Primary Inhibit (Remote On/Off ) PST26 Rev. 00 Page 5 of 11 www.powersystemtechnology.com The inhibit input disables (logic low, pull down or short circuit between Inhibit+ and Inbibit-) or enables (logic high TTL, pull up or open-circuit between Inhibit+ and Inhibit-) the converter. This signal is referenced to the input voltage and will disable/enable all outputs at the same me. In systems consis ng of several converters, this feature may be used to sequence the ac va on of the diff erent converters. Output Voltage Adjustment The converter outputs can be factory adjustable to diff erent values than standard ones. Consult factory. Sense Lines This feature enable compensa on of voltage drop across the connector contacts and the load lines. This fonc onnality is implemented on V1 only and only for the 300W confi gura on. The voltage between any sense line and its respec ve power output pin (as measured on the connector) should not exceed the following values at nominal output voltage. Description
PST26 Rev. 00 Page 9 of 11 www.powersystemtechnology.com These converters are components, intended exclusively for integra on into other equipment by an industrial assembly process or by a profes- sionally competent person. Installa on must strictly follow the safety regula ons in respect of the enclosure, moun ng, creepage and clea- rance distances, markings of the end-use applica on. Connec on to the system shall be made via the female connector H15. Pin 32 (Earth) is a leading pin and is connected to the case. For safety reasons it is essen al to connect this pin to the protec ve earth of the supply system. The AC/L is internally fused. This fuse is designed to protect the con- verter against overcurrent caused by a failure, but may not be able to sa sfy all requirements. External fuses in the wiring circuit to one or both input pins (28 or 24) may be necessary to ensure compliance with local requirements. Do not open the converters, or the warranty will be invalidated. Make sure that there is suffi cient airfl ow available for convec on cooling. This should be verifi ed by measuring the case of temperature at the specifi ed measuring point, when the converter is operated in the end- use applica on. Cleaning Agents and Process The converters are not herme cally sealed. In order to avoid possible damage, any penetra on of liquids shall be avoided. Isola on The electric strength test is performed in the factory in accordance with IEC/EN 60950. Standards and Approvals The converters are built to meet the safety standards IEC 60950-1, EN 60950-1. ‘Built to meet’ men onned in the diff erent paragraphs of the datasheet means that Power System Technology has designed the product to meet the standard but not cer fi ed it in a laboratory.
