UNISONIC TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD MD8837 Advance CMOS IC www.unisonic.com.tw 1 of 7 Copyright © 2017 Unisonic Technologies Co., Ltd ŒW-œIJıĸ-ıĸĹ.a LOW-VOLTAGE H-BRIDGE DRIVER DESCRIPTION The UTC MD8837 can supply up to 1.8 A of output current. It operates on a motor power supply voltage from 0 to 11 V, and a device power supply voltage of 1.8 V to 7.0 V. The UTC MD8837 provides an integrated motor driver solution. The device can drive one DC motor or other devices like solenoids. The output driver block consists of N-channel power MOSFET’s configured as an H-bridge to drive the motor winding. An internal charge pump generates needed gate drive voltages. The UTC MD8837 has a PWM (IN1/IN2) input interface. Both interfaces are compatible with industry-standard devices. Internal shutdown functions are provided for overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, undervoltage lockout, and overtemperature. The UTC MD8837 is a H-bridge driver that c an drive one DC motor or other devices like solenoids. The outputs are controlled using either a PWM interface (IN1/IN2) on the UTC MD8837 . In addition, the UTC MD8837 adds protection features above tradition al discrete implement ations: undervoltage lockout, overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown. If the nSLEEP pin is brought to a logic-low state, the UTC MD8837 enters a low-power sleep mode. In this state, all unnecessary internal circuitry is powered down. Power Supplies VCC and V M may be applied and removed in any order. When V CC is removed, the device will enter a low power state and draw very little current from VM. The VM voltage supply does not have any under volta ge lockout protection (UVLO), so as long as V CC > 1.8 V; the internal device logic will remain active. This means that the V M pin voltage may drop to 0 V, however, the load may not be sufficiently driven at low VM voltages. Overcurrent Protection An analog current limit circuit on each FET limits the current through the FET by removing the gate drive. Operation resumes automatically after tRETRY has elapsed. Overcurrent conditions will be detected on both the high-side and low-side devices. VCC Undervoltage Lockout If at any time the voltage on the V CC pin falls below the under voltage lockout threshold voltage, all FETs in the H-bridge will be disabled. Operation resumes when VCC rises above the UVLO threshold. Thermal Shutdown If the die temperature exceeds safe limits, all FETs in t he H-bridge will be disabled. After the die temperature falls to a safe level, operation automatically resumes.
