APPLICATION INFORMATION

BENEFITS OF THE LMC7111 TINY AMP Size The smallfootprintoftheSOT-23 packaged Tinyamp, (0.120x 0.118inches,3.05x 3.00mm) saves space on printedcircuitboards, and enablethedesignofsmallerelectronicproducts.Because theyare easiertocarry, many customersprefersmallerand lighterproducts. Height The height(0.056inches,1.43mm) oftheTinyamp makes itpossibletouse itinPCMCIA typeIIIcards. SignalIntegrity Signalscan pickup noisebetween thesignalsourceand theamplifier.By usinga physicallysmalleramplifier package, theTinyamp can be placedclosertothesignalsource, reducingnoisepickupand increasingsignal integrity. The Tinyamp can alsobe placednexttothesignaldestination, such as a bufferforthereferenceofan analogtodigitalconverter. SimplifiedBoard Layout The Tinyamp can simplifyboard layoutinseveralways. First,by placingan amp where amps are needed, insteadofroutingsignalstoa dualorquad device, longpc tracesmay be avoided. By usingmultipleTinyamps insteadof dualsor quads, complex signalroutingand possiblycrosstalkcan be reduced. DIPs availableforprototyping LMC7111 amplifierspackaged inconventional8-pindippackages can be used forprototypingand evaluation withouttheneed touse surfacemountinginearlyprojectstages. Low Supply Current The typical25 μA supplycurrentoftheLMC7111 extendsbatterylifeinportableapplications, and may allowthe reductionofthesizeofbatteriesinsome applications. Wide VoltageRange The LMC7111 ischaracterizedat2.7V,3V, 3.3V,5V and 10V. Performancedataisprovidedatthesepopular voltages.Thiswide voltagerange makes theLMC7111 a good choicefordeviceswhere thevoltagemay vary overthelifeofthebatteries. INPUT COMMON MODE VOLTAGE RANGE The LMC7111 does notexhibitphase inversionwhen an inputvoltageexceedsthenegativesupplyvoltage. The absolutemaximum inputvoltageis 300 mV beyond eitherrailat room temperature.Voltagesgreatly exceedingthismaximum ratingcan cause excessivecurrenttoflowinoroutoftheinputpins, adverselyaffecting reliability. Applicationsthatexceed thisratingmust externallylimitthe maximum inputcurrentto ±5 mA withan input resistoras shown inFigure52. Figure52. SNOS753E –AUGUST 1999–REVISED MARCH 2013 www.ti.com CAPACITIVE LOAD TOLERANCE The LMC7111 can typicallydirectlydrivea 300 pF loadwithVS = 10V atunitygainwithoutoscillating. The unity gainfolloweristhemost sensitiveconfiguration.Directcapacitiveloadingreducesthephase marginofop-amps. The combinationoftheop-amp'soutputimpedance and thecapacitiveloadinducesphase lag.Thisresultsin eitheran underdamped pulseresponseoroscillation. Capacitiveloadcompensationcan be accomplishedusingresistiveisolationas shown inFigure53.Thissimple techniqueisusefulforisolatingthecapacitiveinputofmultiplexersand A/D converters. Figure53. ResistiveIsolation ofa 330 pF CapacitiveLoad COMPENSATING FOR INPUT CAPACITANCE WHEN USING LARGE VALUE FEEDBACK RESISTORS When usingverylargevaluefeedbackresistors,(usually> 500 kΩ)thelargefeedback resistancecan reactwith theinputcapacitancedue totransducers, photodiodes, and circuitboardparasiticstoreducephase margins. The effectofinputcapacitancecan be compensated forby addinga feedbackcapacitor. The feedbackcapacitor (asinFigure54),C f isfirstestimatedby: (1) or R 1 C IN ≤ R 2 C f (2) whichtypicallyprovidessignificantovercompensation. Printedcircuitboardstraycapacitancemay be largerorsmallerthanthatofa breadboard,so theactualoptimum valueforC F may be different. The valuesofC F shouldbe checked on theactualcircuit.(RefertotheLMC660 quad CMOS amplifierdatasheetfora more detaileddiscussion.) Figure54. CancellingtheEffectofInputCapacitance OUTPUT SWING The outputoftheLMC7111 willgo towithin100 mV ofeitherpower supplyrailfora 10 kΩ loadand to20 mV of the railfora 100 kΩ load.Thismakes the LMC7111 usefulfordrivingtransistorswhich are connectedto the same power supply.By goingveryclosetothesupply,theLMC7111 can turnthetransistorsalltheway on orall theway off.

LIFEBUY: TI has announced that the device will be discontinued, and a lifetime-buy period is in effect. NRND: Not recommended for new designs. Device is in production to support existing customers, but TI does not recommend using this part in a new design. PREVIEW: Device has been announced but is not in production. Samples may or may not be available. OBSOLETE: TI has discontinued the production of the device. (2) Eco Plan - The planned eco-friendly classification: Pb-Free (RoHS), Pb-Free (RoHS Exempt), or Green (RoHS & no Sb/Br) - please check http://www.ti.com/productcontent for the latest availability information and additional product content details. TBD: The Pb-Free/Green conversion plan has not been defined. Pb-Free (RoHS): TI's terms "Lead-Free" or "Pb-Free" mean semiconductor products that are compatible with the current RoHS requirements for all 6 substances, including the requirement that lead not exceed 0.1% by weight in homogeneous materials. Where designed to be soldered at high temperatures, TI Pb-Free products are suitable for use in specified lead-free processes. Pb-Free (RoHS Exempt): This component has a RoHS exemption for either 1) lead-based flip-chip solder bumps used between the die and package, or 2) lead-based die adhesive used between the die and leadframe. The component is otherwise considered Pb-Free (RoHS compatible) as defined above. Green (RoHS & no Sb/Br): TI defines "Green" to mean Pb-Free (RoHS compatible), and free of Bromine (Br) and Antimony (Sb) based flame retardants (Br or Sb do not exceed 0.1% by weight in homogeneous material) (3) MSL, Peak Temp. - The Moisture Sensitivity Level rating according to the JEDEC industry standard classifications, and peak solder temperature. (4) There may be additional marking, which relates to the logo, the lot trace code information, or the environmental category on the device. (5) Multiple Device Markings will be inside parentheses. Only one Device Marking contained in parentheses and separated by a "~" will appear on a device. If a line is indented then it is a continuation of the previous line and the two combined represent the entire Device Marking for that device. (6) Lead/Ball Finish - Orderable Devices may have multiple material finish options. Finish options are separated by a vertical ruled line. Lead/Ball Finish values may wrap to two lines if the finish value exceeds the maximum column width.
