APPLICATIONS

The IPA1751 and OSC1754 when used with one of the IRDC1730 series Inductosyn/resolver-to-digitalconver- ters offersthe user allthe electronicmodules neces- sary for the Inductosyn to controllerinterface. GENERAL DESCRIPTION IPA1751 The output signalsfrom an Inductosynsliderareata low level of the ordermillivoltsand requiresamplificationand buffering beforetransmissionto an Inductosynto digitalconverter.The IPA1751 providesthe necessarygainand output impedance for thispurpose. Any gain mismatch in the two channelsamplifyingthesineand cosineoutputsof the Inductosynslidercontributesto thesystem error.The IPA1751 with a 0.15% gainmatch overthetemperature range only contributesan errorof0.23 micron usinga 2mm pitchInductosyn.By carefullycontrollingphase mismatch to lessthan 1°the errorcontributionisonly 0.2 micron in a 2mm pitchInductosyn. The IPA1751 with an output resistanceof lessthan 3 ohms and a capabilityofdrivinga cablecapacityof 1O,OOOpF istotally suitedtomachine toolapplicationwhere the Inductosynto digitalconverterisremote from the measuring Inductosyn. In additionto thepower output,a two low power outputsare providedone inphase and one 90° in advance of thepower output.The necessityfora quadratureoutput isforthe reference inputof the IRDC, sinceInductosyntrackimpedance ispredo- minantlyresistive,the slidersineand cosineoutput voltagesare in phase quadraturewith the voltage. The demands on the absoluteaccuracyof thephase,frequency and amplitudearenot exactingowing tothemethod ofconversion used in the IRDC thatistolerantto alltheseparameters(see IRDCI730/31/33 Data Sheets). APPLICATION OF OSC1754 AND IPA1751 The diagram below shows a "hookup" with thepreamplifier power oscillatorand an IRDCI733 with an Inductosyn.Precise applicationinformationisnot possibleas the Inductosynin its applicationhas many variables. Current Set Resistor This resistorisused to match the voltageoutput of the oscillator totheInductosyntrackresistanceand providethemanufacturer's recommended current.By variationof the voltageoutputsand currentresistance,trackby thisup toapproximately30 feet(9.1 meters)can be accommodated. Decoupling The preamplifierand oscillatorhave internalhigh frequency decouplingcapacitorson the supply lines,however, itisrecom- mended thatelectrolyticdecouplingcapacitorsareconnected closeto themodule pins. CURRENT SET RESISTOR Channel Gains There areseveralways toachievea signalvalueof 2.5V rms at the converterinput.When settinggainsitisimportantthatthe 2.5V rms signalisthe maximum ineitherchannel. Within thelimitssetby noise,sliderexactationcan be varied.A usefulfeatureofthe trackingconverterisitsabilityto reject incoherentand common mode noise. As theinputimpedance of the IRDC isresistive,the gain can be scaledby theadditionof seriesresistors.The requiredvalue is2.22kf1per excessvolt,the mismatch being more important than the absolutevalue.A mismatch of 0.1% in the valuesgives risetoan errorof0.0000787 of the Inductosynpitch.
