DESCRIPTION

The iC-WK/L device is a driver for laser diodes in continuouswaveoperationwhichrequiresonlyfour externalcomponents. Thewidepowersupplyrange of2.4to6Vandtheintegratedreversebatteryprotec- tionallowforbatteryoperationwithaminimumoftwo cells. Areversedbatteryconnectiondestroysneither theiCnorthelaserdiode. TheiCincludesintegratedcircuitryprotectingagainst destructionbyESD,excessivetemperatureandover- currentandasoftstartwhichregulatesthepowerand protects the laser diode when the power supply is switchedon. TheiCalsofiltersthelaserdiodepower supplyfortransients. The power supply is regulated and adapted to the laserdiodeusedbyanexternalresistoratMDA. The monitorcurrentactsasareferenceandisregulated independentoftheinfluenceoftemperatureandsup- plyvoltage(range: 10 µAto2.5mA).Thecapacitorat CIdeterminesthecontroltimeconstantsandstart-up time. Asecondmonitorinput,pinMDK,allowsthedriverto beusedforothertypesoflaserdiodeconfiguration;al- ternatively,itcanbeusedasananaloguemodulation input(DCtoafewkHz).
