FEATURES

Meets AllRS-232-C and V.28 Specifications Multiple Drivers and Receivers On-Board DC-DC Converters :t:9V Output Swing with +5 V Supply low Power CMOS: 5 mA Operation low Power Shutdown $1 p.A 3-State TTl/CMOS Receiver Outputs :t:30V Receiver Input levels Plug-In Replacement for MAX230-241

APPLICATIONS

The AD230 familyof 5 V only,RS-232 linedrivers/receivers providesa varietyof configurationsto fitmost communication needs,especiallyin applicationswhere :t12 V isnot available. The AD230, AD235, AD236 and AD241 featurea low power shutdown mode which reducespower dissipationtolessthan 5 j.LW making them ideallysuitedforbatterypowered equip- ment. The AD233 and AD235 do not requireany externalcom- ponents and areparticularlyusefulin applicationswhere printed circuitboard spaceiscritical. 1\\llmembers ofthe AD230 family,exceptthe AD231 and the AD239, includetWo internalchargepump voltageconverters which allowoperationfrom a single+5 V supply.These con- vertersconvertthe + 5 V inputpower to the :t10 V requiredfor RS-232 output levels.The AD231 and AD239 aredesignedto operatefrom +5 V and + 12 V supplies.An internal+ 12 V to - 12 V chargepump voltageconvertergeneratesthe - 12 V supply. In ordertominimize the package count in allapplications,a wide selectionof driver/receivercombinationsisavailable(see tablebelow).
