High Resolution/High Accuracy Readout for: Test Equipment ProcessControl Instrumentation Analyticaland ScientificInstruments GENERAL DESCRIPTION The AD2025 and AD2028 arelow cost4% digitDPMs with largeLED displays.Both unitsofferthe same featuresand iden- ticalperformance, but the AD2025 isac linepowered and the AD2028 is+5V dc powered. The AD2025 and AD2028 are interchangeablewith two 4\\-2 digitDPMs availablefrom Analog Devices,the AD2024 and AD2027 respectively.Thus, they can be used in applications where eithera 4% or 4\\-2digitdisplaymay be desirableinone basicapplication. THE BENEFITS OF SECOND GENERATION DESIGN The AD2025 and AD2028 aredesignedaround MOS-LSI (Metal Oxide Semiconductor, Large ScaleIntegration)inte- gratedcircuitswhich greatlyreduce the number of components and interconnectionsrequiredto providethe performance and featuresexpected ina high resolution4% digitDPM. This "Second Generation" design,therefore,offersgreatly increasedreliabilityand significantlylower costat littlecom- promise inperformance. The large0.43 inch (11mm) LED dis- playsofferthe brightnessand readabilitypreviouslyavailable only with gas dischargedisplayswith the added advantage of an allsolidstatecomponent. HIGH RESOLUTION AND VERSATILE FEATURES These DPMs measure DC inputvoltagesover a fullscalerange of :t3.9999V or :t39.999V with an accuracy of :to.005% reading :to.005% of fullscale:tldigit.Using the "limiteddifferential~, inputfirstused by Analog Deviceson the AD2010, the AD2025 and AD2028 prevent ground loop problems and pro- vide 50dB of common mode rejectionat common mode vol- tagesup to :t200mV. Normal mode rejectionis25dB at 50-60Hz. BCD data outputs areprovided in a bitparallel,characterserial format compatible with CMOS logicsystems.When applica- tionsrequireparallelBCD data,such as interfacesto printers, comparators or slavedisplays,parallelBCD output optionsare availablethatarecompatible to standardTTL logicsystems. Externalpower supply outputs at +5V and -25V (-25V only on the AD2028) aremade availableforpowering externalcir- cuitry.In addition,controlinputsfor conversion "Hold", displayblanking and decimal point selectionareprovided. INDUSTRY STANDARD CASE DESIGNS Although both the AD2025 and AD2028 have identicalelec- tricaldesigns,they arepackaged in the casesizesthathave become industrystandardsforac linepowered and +5V dc logicpowered DPMs respectively.The AD2025 fitsthe 3.924" x 1.682" (99.67 x 42.74mm) panel cutout common to most ac linepowered DPMs, and the AD2028 fitsthe 3.175" x 1.810" (80.65 x 45.97mm) panel cutout of the Analog Deviceslogic power casedesign,now used by severalother manufacturers of logicpowered DPMs. Thus, interchangeabilityisassured, allowingmechanical second sourcingforboth theseDPMs. DESIGNED AND BUILT FOR RELIABILITY Even beyond the reliabilityadvantagesof the LSI-IC design and LED displays,the AD2025 and AD2028 have had extreme caretaken in theirdesignand manufacture to insurereliability. Manufacturing processesaremonitored by continualquality assuranceinspectionsto insureproper workmanship and test- ing.AutomatictestequipmentisusedtotesteachDPM thor- oughlyand withouterror.And eachAD2025 and AD2028, likeeveryAnalogDevicesDPM, receivesa fullone week failure- freeburn-inwith power cyclingbefore shipment. InterfacingData OutPuts The standarddata outputs are ina bitparallelcharacterserial format compatible to CMOS and LP Schottky logicsystems. The BCD outputs are multiplexed,and a digitoutput ispro- vided for each of the fivedigitsof output. Thus, the four BCD lineson the output at a given time are validfor the digitwhose digitlineiscurrentlyhigh.The bitparallel characterserialdata isvalidwhen the DPM statuslineis low for a period of 150ms between each conversioncycle. The overload lineislatched output which isat logic"1", whenever the input exceeds the full40,000 count range. Optional parallelBCD outputs ("B" option) areavailableon a separatecard which isinternallyconnected to the DPM. The output data then ispresentedina fullparallelformat and is latched.The paralleldata isvalidwhenever the data ready output ishigh.
