1.59 Laon” TRIODE— PENTODE TUBES The 6AU8-A is a general-purpose miniature tube which contains a sharp-cut- off pentode and a medium-mu triode in one envelope. Each section has a sepa- BASING DIAGRAM rate cathode and is electrically independent. The tube is suitable for a wide variety of general-purpose applications in both (5) monochrome and color television receivers. The high figure of merit of the (4) (6) pentode section makes it particularly suited for service as a video amplifier, | SS video intermediate-frequency amplifier, and sound intermediate-frequency (3) 1X7) amplifier. The triode section is intended for use as a sync amplifier, separator, (4 Ht or clipper, or as a sweep oscillator. The triode section may also be connected as (2) WO a diode for video-detector applications, which adds to the over-all versatility of the tube. a) (9) In addition, the 6AU8-A, as a result of its controlled heater warm-up charac- teristic, is especially suited for use in television receivers that employ series- EIA 9DX connected heaters. The 6AU8-A differs from the 6AU8 primarily by incorporat- ing a controlled plate-knee characteristic. CHARACTERISTICS AND TYPICAL OPERATION Pentode Triode AVERAGE CHARACTERISTICS Section Section Grid-Number 1 Voltage, approximate * The time required for the voltage across the heater to reach 80 percent of its rated value after applying 4 times rated heater voltage to a circuit consisting of the tube heater in series with a resistance equal to 3 times the rated heater voltage divided by the rated heater current. + Without external shield. Note: The triode section of the 6AU8-A may be diode-connected and employed as ahigh-perveance diode in video detec- tor applications. The diode operation can be obtained either with the triode grid connected to the triode plate and the combination operated as the plate of the diode, or with the triode plate grounded and the triode grid operated as the plate of the diode.
