Edition • 2023-07-21T15:56:31+02:00 FOUNDATION fieldbus and PROFIBUS-PA Multibarrier, 4-channel MBD40-T0415/EX/000 The four-channel multibarrier enables the con- nection of a large number of field devices to one fieldbus in the Ex area, according to IEC 61158-2. Each multibarrier can take 4 Ex i field devices. Up to 16 Ex i field devices can be connected to the bus. Ex e fieldbus supply (High Power Trunk Concept) which is looped through from multibarrier to multibarrier allows to augment the number of subscribers. In order to limit in- rush currents at the moment of turn-on, the drop lines/spurs are switched on one after the other. Inputs and outputs of the trunk line feature en- hanced safety protection (Ex e) and the spurs to the field devices are intrinsically safe (Ex i). The multibarrier is equipped with an activat- able terminating resistor for the bus. The ter- minating resistor is switched on/off by means of a jumper.
