  1. INTRODUCTION (See Figure 1) High Current Extraction Tools 679916- -1, 679917- -1, and 679918- -1 are designed to remove High Current Pin and Socket Contacts 193837- -[ ] and 193673- -[ ] from their housings. Read these instructions thoroughly before using the tool. Housings are customer supplied and must be designed to meet specifications by Tyco Electronics. 2. DESCRIPTION The extraction tool consists of a push rod button, push rod, handle, and sleeve. The sleeve is inserted into the mating face of the housing, depressing the locking lances of the crimped contact and allowing the contact to be extracted from the wire end of the housing. 3. EXTRACTION PROCEDURE(See Figure 2) 1. Align the sleeve of the tool with the contact to be removed. 2. Holding the handle, insert the sleeve into the housing cavity until the sleeve bottoms. Allow the push rod to slide out of the handle. 3. While holding the sleeve in position, depress the push rod button. The contact will emerge from the wire end of the housing as the button is depressed; then pull contact free from housing. If contact is not easily removed, carefully repeat the extraction procedure. 4. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION It is recommended that the tool be inspected when you receive it and at regularly scheduled intervals. The tool is not repairable, and it should be replaced when it is worn or damaged. Store the extraction tool in a clean, dry place and clean the extraction tool with a soft, lint- -free cloth.
