Applications

The IR -18 9 1 is suitable for the installation of a range of R aychem brand heat- shrinkable tubing products onto a variety of sm all com ponents, e.g. ring term inals, FA STO N term inals and sm all connectors etc. The m achine is provided w ith tw o w ork stations and a m oveable heating head. Each w orkstation is provid - ed w ith supports for tooling fixtures (w hich m ust be specified and ordered separately). These support the w orkpieces and locate the tubing products. The operator loads the w ork - pieces into the fixtures at one of the w orkstations, ensures that the tubing product is correctly posi - tioned and then slides the heat head into position before initiating the heating cycle. The operator then continues w ith loading/ unloading the other w ork station w hilst the heating cycle is taking place. The IR -18 9 1-220V-Shuttle- R etn is provided w ith closed loop tem perature control and in addition the heat head is ‘locked’ into position by use of an electrom agnet during the heating cycle. O nce the other w orkstation has been loaded and the first installation is com plete, the heat head is m oved into position over the product and the next heating cycle initiated. H eating tim es vary typically from 3 to 30 seconds depending on the size and type of tubing product. Process rates up to 1200 pieces/hour can be achieved depending on the heating tim e and the tim e taken by the operator to load unload the w orkpieces. The installation tem pera - ture/pow er can be varied according to product type/size and required cycle tim es. The heating elem ents, w hich are continuously energized, are of the infra- red m edium w ave length type and consist of a coiled resistance w ire contained in quartz glass tubes. The closed loop tem perature control uses sim ilar ele - m ents but having integral therm ocouple sensors.
