Thoroughly check the w ater filtra - tion system for possible shipping dam age and parts loss. A lso inspect and note any dam age to the shipping carton. R em ove and discard (or recycle) all packing m aterials. IN STA L L ATIO N L O CATIO N To filter all household w ater, install the U ltraE ase™ P ivotal W hole H om e W ater Filtration System on the household’s m ain incom ing w ater pipe. For a hom e w ith m unicipal w ater supply, install the filter betw een the hom e’s incom ing w ater supply and the w ater sof - tener, if a w ater softener is being used (See Figure 3A ). If the hom e has w ell w ater, reverse the order of the filter and the w ater softener (See Figure 3B ). FIL TER CA R TR ID G E L IFE It is recom m ended to replace filter cartridge every six m onths of use. There are several variables that determ ine how long a cartridge w ill last. These include: 1. H ow m uch w ater you use, and 2. H ow m uch sedim ent, taste and/or odor, or other unw anted substance, is in the w ater. You w ill know it is tim e to replace the cartridge w hen you first notice the return of the unw anted sedim ent, taste and/or odor in your w ater, or w hen the flow dim inishes or stops. G rasp the low er part of the sum p and pull it firm ly and slow ly tow ard you, pivoting upw ard until it stops in the bypass/filter change position (See Fig. 10). You m ay notice a hissing sound, as a sm all am ount of w ater (approxim ately 4 ounces) is expelled into the vent tube to relieve pressure in the sum p. 2. P ull the sum p dow nw ard out of the head. N O TE: To avoid unintended w ater flow from the filter head, do not pivot filter head dow n to the serv - ice position w ithout the sum p and replacem ent filter cartridge in place, as show n in Figure 16. 3. It is recom m ended to take the sum p assem bly to a sink or level w aterproof surface before opening it. 4 . U nsnap the lid clam p by pulling its latches in oppo - site directions, as show n in Fig. 11. D o not pry or use tools, as this m ay dam age the assem bly. If you have difficulty rem oving cartridge from sum p, insert a screw driver into the slot show n in Figure 12 and pry up. D ispose of used cartridge properly. N O TE: C heck the sum p to be sure it is dry and free of debris. 7 . Take the new filter cartridge out of its packaging and rem ove the protective caps from the ports (See Fig. 13).
- Slide the lid assem - bly dow n over the replacem ent car - tridge’s ports until it sits flat on top of the sum p, then lock the clam p onto the sum p by pinching together the latch - es, as show n in Fig. 15 , until they snap. Filter cartridges can only be installed in one orienta - tion, and are “keyed” to assure proper fit. Insert the new filter cartridge into the sum p, and turn it until the triangular points on its top edge align w ith, and drop into the corresponding detents in the sum p (see Fig. 13). 10 . Insert the sum p assem bly into the head by guiding the filter ports into the corresponding receptacles in the head and pushing the sum p upw ard until it stops (See Fig. 16).
