3M™ Brushable Seam Sealer Gray 08656 Typical Performance Properties Note: The following technical information and data should be considered representative or typical only and should not be used for specification purposes. Brush Application Non-Stringing Tack Free Time @ 75°F 15 Minutes Primed Metal Adhesion Very Good Salt Spray Resistance @ 1000 Hours No Rust Water Soak @ 2 Weeks No Rust Cold Temperature Flexibility @ -20°F No Cracks Directions for Use NOTE: 3M Best Practice is that all sealers, unless designated specifically for use on bare metal, be applied to properly prepared automotive paint or primer. Applying over bare metal may not provide adequate corrosion protection. Acid etch primer is not recommended to be used in direct contact with any 3M seam sealer. Residual acid can weaken the bond. 1. If applying to bare metal: Abrade the surface to remove all surface contaminates exposing clean bare metal. If applying to primer or paint: Scuff the surface with a fine grade abrasive or scuff pad. 2. Wash the surface with an appropriate VOC compliant product for removal of surface contaminants. 3. Open the quart can and brush/tool seam sealer onto desired surface. Be aware this is a fast-drying sealer, be prepared to work quickly. 4. Tool or brush to desired appearance. 5. Wait to dry before applying paint over the sealer. Thicker applications of seam sealer will take longer to cure before painting. Stated dry time is for 1/8 inch thickness. Applications A multipurpose, fast-drying seam sealer that is easily applied with a brush. Duplicates OEM appearance in areas where a brushed seam sealer was originally used. A typical application would be seams in the engine compartment since it is resistant to fuel and oil. NOTE: This product is not desirable anywhere inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle since it contains a solvent, which if not allowed to fully dry, can leave a strong smell in the vehicle. If a brushable sealer is needed in the passenger compartment or inside the trunk, a better selection would be a one part, moisture cure, urethane product such as PN 08360, 08361, 08364 or a two part product such as PN 08308 or 08310. Storage and Handling Store at room temperature. Rotate stock on a “first-in, first-out” basis. When stored at the recommended conditions in original, unopened containers, this product has a shelf life of 12 months. Always use in a well-ventilated area. - 2 -
