APPLICATION INFORMATION
Swtich Mode Power Supply Control The TPS51219 isa highperformance,single-synchronousstep-downcontrollerwithdifferentialvoltagefeedback. The TPS51219 realizesaccurateregulationatthespecificloadpointoverwide loadrangewiththecombination ofthreefunctions.
- 2-V Reference with0.8% Tolerance.Internalvoltagedividerprovidesprecisereference(See Table1 inthe VREF and REFIN, OutputVoltagesection).A valueof0.1µF isrecommended as thedecouplingcapacitance between VREF and GSNS pins.
- Integrator.Feedback capacitanceconnectedfromtheoutput(COMP pin)totheinput(VSNS pin)oftheerror amplifiercomprisesintegrator, which increasesgain at DC to low frequencyregionand improves load regulationoftheoutputvoltage.10nF isrecommended as thecapacitancebetween VSNS and COMP pins.
- Differentialremote sensing. Differentialfeedbackprovidespreciseoutputvoltagecontrolat the pointof load.Connect VSNS and GSNS directlyto outputvoltagesense pointand ground returnpointat the load device, respectively.ShortGSNS toGND ifremotesense isnotused. The TPS51219 supportstwo controlarchitectures,D-CAP ™ mode and D-CAP2 ™ mode. Both controlmodes do not requirecomplex externalcompensation networks and are suitablefor designs with small external components counts. The D-CAP ™ mode providesfasttransientresponsewithappropriateamount ofequivalent seriesresistance(ESR) on theoutputcapacitors. The D-CAP2 ™ mode isdedicatedfora configurationwithvery low ESR outputcapacitorssuch as multi-layerceramiccapacitors(MLCC). For the both modes, an adaptive on-timecontrolscheme isused toachievepseudo-constantfrequency.The TPS51219 adjuststheon-time(tON ) tobe inverselyproportionaltotheinputvoltage(VIN) and proportionaltotheSMPS outputvoltage(VOUT ).The switchingfrequencyremainsnearlyconstantover the variationof inputvoltageat the steady-statecondition. Controlmodes and switchingfrequencyareselectedby theMODE pindescribedinTable2. VREF and REFIN, Output Voltage The deviceprovidesa 2.0-V,±0.8% accurate, voltagereferencefrom VREF. Thisoutputhas a 300-µA current capabilitytodrivetheREFIN inputvoltagethrougha voltagedividercircuit.A capacitorwitha valueof0.1-µF or largershouldbe attachedclosetotheVREF terminal. The SMPS outputvoltageisdefinedby REFIN voltage, withintherangebetween 0.5V and 2.0V, programmed by theresister-dividerconnectedbetween VREF and GSNS. (See Figure23 and ExternalComponents Selection section.)A few nano-faradsofcapacitancefromREFIN toGSNS isrecommended forstableoperation.A voltage dividerand a filtercapacitortothispinshouldbe referencedtoGSNS. (2) Material type: When designated, preproduction parts are prototypes/experimental devices, and are not yet approved or released for full production. Testing and final process, including without limitation quality assurance, reliability performance testing, and/or process qualification, may not yet be complete, and this item is subject to further changes or possible discontinuation. If available for ordering, purchases will be subject to an additional waiver at checkout, and are intended for early internal evaluation purposes only. These items are sold without warranties of any kind. (3) RoHS values: Yes, No, RoHS Exempt. See the TI RoHS Statement for additional information and value definition. (4) Lead finish/Ball material: Parts may have multiple material finish options. Finish options are separated by a vertical ruled line. Lead finish/Ball material values may wrap to two lines if the finish value exceeds the maximum column width. (5) MSL rating/Peak reflow: The moisture sensitivity level ratings and peak solder (reflow) temperatures. In the event that a part has multiple moisture sensitivity ratings, only the lowest level per JEDEC standards is shown. Refer to the shipping label for the actual reflow temperature that will be used to mount the part to the printed circuit board. (6) Part marking: There may be an additional marking, which relates to the logo, the lot trace code information, or the environmental category of the part. Multiple part markings will be inside parentheses. Only one part marking contained in parentheses and separated by a "~" will appear on a part. If a line is indented then it is a continuation of the previous line and the two combined represent the entire part marking for that device.
